The White Temple – Wat Rong Khun

July 11th, 2008

Wat Rong Khun is an all-white Buddhist temple compound that is currently under construction, begun in 2003 with the artist predicting the whole compound to take 90 years to construct. The coloring deviates from the normal orange, brown, gold and green normally seen in Thai Buddhist architecture. This is really quite a breathtaking video. And just imagine – in 85 years you might be able to go visit it and see the completed compound.

Entering an Akha Hill Tribe Village

June 3rd, 2008

This is a very short video but shows an interesting side to Thai tourism. This is a far piece from the flashy golden chedis of Bangkok and Chiang Mai. The hill tribes are closer to the indigenous people of northern Thailand and live in a good bit of poverty, as evidenced by this video. I will be posting more about the hill tribes later but this is an introduction – what you might see when entering the village.

Thai House Architecture

May 27th, 2008

This video, although in Thai, gives a really good look at architecture in Thailand. It shows both the large-scale design and also does a close-up of details, such as carvings and finials.
